PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Freelance Graphic Design, Tin Lid Lake Studio, Medford, Oregon, 2013-Present

Operating from my home creating websites, ad campaigns, catalogs, brochures, posters, flyers, packaging, book, video and CD cover graphics and corporate ID for a local, national and international clients. Collaborating with a local web designer/partner as a team for servicing film and music industry clients, among others.

Art Director, Passey Advertising, Inc., Medford, Oregon – September 2005 to 2013

As lead visual artist and designer, I developed creative advertising, marketing, and branding concepts, produced visuals and/or designs, and wrote copy for a wide variety of projects, covering all media: print, web, broadcast, outdoor for clients big and small, high-brow and low. The pace was fast, “Multi-tasking” wouldn’t describe the half of it. We “tilted at windmills” and tried to shock people by doing the impossible, on-time, under budget, and doing it surprisingly well.

Freelance Graphic Design, KillianCreative, Medford, Oregon, 2001-2005

Operated from my home creating ad campaigns, catalogs, brochures, posters, flyers, packaging, book, video and CD cover graphics and corporate ID for a local, national and international clients. Collaborated with copywriter/partner as a team we called “Radium Advertising” for music industry and high-tech clients such as Warwick Bass, Framus Guitar, IK Multimedia, Tara Labs, EAD, and San Francisco Stereo and Theater Systems.

Art Director, EMMA/Steelhead Advertising Medford, Oregon – March – July 1999

Client projects included Asante Health Net, Mitsubishi Electronics, Vets Health, Imperia Laser Eye Centers, and Mellelo’s Coffee Roasters. This outfit was fast-paced and volatile. But, even after a downturn in agency business (and I and a few others were laid off) we have remained good friends and I continued to do freelance work for them.

Designer, Musician’s Friend Medford, Oregon – 1997-1999 (and 2000 to 2001)

Developed and executed concept and design aspects of the catalog, specifically covers, special sections, indoor and outdoor store signage – back when MF had stores and POP displays. During my second term emphasis on print advertising. During my whole tenure, completely transformed the company “branding” from the logo on up. Directed many dozens of photo shoots.

Art Director: Seymour Duncan Pickups, Santa Barbara, California – 1993-1997

Concept development and execution of all consumer and trade advertising, package design, brochures, flyers, posters and trade show displays. Developed nearly all ad campaign concepts myself and wrote most of the headlines. This was one of the most fun and satisfying jobs I’ve ever had – but it didn’t pay enough to be able continue living in a very expensive area like Santa Barbara. I collaborated and interfaced with several “gatekeepers” on every project and was never late on a deadline.

Art Director, Gospel Light Publications, Ventura, California – 1983-1993.

Designed book covers, illustrated and designed book interiors, conceived and executed magazine ads, direct-mail and collateral advertising pieces and a variety of packaging for a multitude of projects over the course of nearly 11 years, using traditional and electronic means. Directed hundreds of photo shoots, interacted with dozens of vendors and successfully collaborated with both internal and external creative team members and executives.
